Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups of milk (preferably whole or 2percent)
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup of sugar granulated
- 1/2 cup semisweet or bittersweet chocolate chips or chocolate bar chopped
- 1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Instructions
- Warm the milk: In a small saucepan, add the milk and warm it up over moderately low temperature. Stir frequently to prevent the milk from burning. It should be warm, but not boiling.
- Blend in Cocoa and sugar: Once the milk is warm and the cocoa powder is added, mix in the milk and sugar. Continue to whisk until it is well dissolved and thoroughly mixed.
- Incorporate Chocolate Chips Add the chips of chocolate, whisking continuously until they completely melt to the milk giving it a thick and smooth texture.
- Finalize with Vanilla Add a dash of vanilla extract, and give it a final stir to blend.
- Serve immediately: Pour the hot chocolate into mugs, then top with your favorite garnishes, such as marshmallows, whipped cream or chocolate shavings.
Notes
- You can modify the sweetness making use of the bittersweet chips of chocolate instead.
- For a drink that is more nourishing you can try half and half instead of milk.
- It is possible to mix in other flavors such as peppermint or cinnamon for an added festive touch.
