Equipment

  • Coffee grinder
  • Large container
  • Fine-mesh strainer
  • Cheesecloth
  • Jar or bottle for storage

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole coffee beans coarsely ground
  • 4 cups water filtered for better taste

Instructions

  • Coarsely grind the coffee beans using a grinder. Aim for a texture similar to cornmeal.
  • In a large container, combine the coarsely ground coffee and water. Stir gently to ensure all grounds are fully saturated.
  • Cover the container and let it steep at room temperature or in the refrigerator for 12-15 hours.
  • After steeping, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer lined with cheesecloth to remove coffee grounds.
  • Transfer the strained cold brew into a clean jar or bottle and store in the refrigerator for up to a week.
  • To serve, dilute with water or milk to taste and pour over ice. Add sweeteners or flavorings if desired.

Notes

For a stronger brew, extend the steeping time up to 15 hours but avoid over-steeping to prevent bitterness. Try freezing some cold brew into ice cubes to prevent dilution when serving over ice.
